Dear Karl: Denim Cowboy

Ya know it's hard to stay warm in the winter without looks so monochramatic. I've been playing around with layers alot to keep the winter frocks fresh and came up with this at 2 am.

The jacket was from a blow out sale from this coutique in Brick Lane. It's way too big but it's like my little shelter from the cold. I can pretty much fit my whole body in it.

I think mixing denims with bold browns is a pretty classic combo- and it looks pretty casual with the mixture of textures.

I'm ready to build an igloo- bring on the snow.

Dear Karl- This Time Last Year

I saw these designs and I was floored. Never even heard of McQueen let alone Gareth in little old Vancouver- then stumbled upon these designs on the pages of I.D and was floored. D

Designs like these are polarizing- many wont get them- "how can you where that blah blah"- well its art, its different, and it makes you think. Designs like these arent meant to be strutted on the street- their meant to be amuseum or some club kid party in the east.
Actually the MQueen coat is def wearable. At least i'd wear it.

Julie Oya is that you?

Dear Karl- This is Estelle Hanania

Just discovered French artist Estelle Hanania through flipping through Juxta pose- and I'm a fan. I'm not going to pretend that I understand art, but I know what I like. It's ambiguous, dark, open, clean, and bold.

Here are some examples of her work:

Not only this, but shes done spreads for Martin Margiela, Limi Feu, Hermes, and even Urban Outfitters. Her editorial work for these brands def focus less on the model and more on simplicity and objects- which is def the Margiela esthetic.
